As an avid reader and nonfiction author, I love the writing style of Tammy L. Gray! From the first chapter to the last chapter, she captivates my attention. In my opinion, there are many Christian romances and the competition is fierce, but many of these books are boring, unstimulating, and it's challenging for me to complete. In My Hope Next Door, it was a breath of fresh air to have characters like real ordinary people; broken, confused, and looking for a second chance. While not all Christians or non-Christians could relate to bad girl, Katie Stone, females from young to old can relate in the fact that they, too, have made mistakes that can come back to haunt them. The beautiful message is that no matter how far in the pit you have gone, no matter how dark your past is, and no matter how many regrets you may have, our heavenly Father can miraculously transform us from the inside out. You are chosen for such a time as this: To be set apart from the world. To take your messy past to become your powerful message of hope, healing, and new beginnings. If you love romance novels, a clean story without trashy profanity or sex scenes, and some suspense along the way, this book is for you. I highly recommend My Hope next Door! What an amazingly sweet story of love and redemption. This story shows the readers how facing your past mistakes and owning up to them, growing from them, asking for forgiveness of those that your mistakes hurt, and forgiving yourself can be a catalyst for moving forward to the life intended for you.

Every teen has something in their past they would rather it not be there. Something that you hope you don't have to be judged on the rest of your life. And we all need someone to believe in the adult that we have become. The author does a superb job of showing the realities of this situation. It's not a quick "I'm sorry; great you're forgiven", snap of the fingers and everyone lives happily ever after. Life is messy and not everyone can move forward and forget. The humanness of these characters -- the main ones and the background players as well -- makes this a very relatable story. And when a story is relatable, as a reader you can picture yourself in the circumstances of the characters and can identify with them and their feelings. And when they get their happy ending, it gives you hope that you can change your circumstances too. And everyone is looking for hope.

I have recommended this book to several friends. And I recommend it to you too. This author is great st her craft. You will walk away from this book changed.
Four and a half stars for this book! You so want these characters come out on top of their situations in this story, but you just aren't sure they'll be able to make it. There is so much hurt and betrayal to overcome, and while you know God can bring healing, you just aren't sure if these folks will let Him. Katie Stone, the ultimate rebellious bad girl, comes home after four years of silence to help her family because her mother has been diagnosed with debilitating illness. But, Katie and her mother have always had a rocky relationship -- full of rejection and misunderstanding. Throw in an abusive ex-boyfriend, and EVERYONE who Katie tormented as a teenager, a small town gossipy, no secrets mentality, and the stage is set for some serious drama. Ms. Gray takes us on a bumpy ride and you pray no one falls out the back of the pick up and is seriously injured as the story progresses. Katie gets some good advice from a neighbor who becomes an unlikely ally, since he was a frequent target of Katie's bullying when they were in High School together. There is a second installment of some other characters that is coming soon, but this tale has a satisfying ending -- no cliff hanger here.
Katie Stone is returning to her hometown after a four-year absence. Her problems seemed insurmountable, and she had no one to turn to. She left town thinking that she had caused too much pain and damage with her wild ways, but she finds out that her departure hurt those who knew her more than anything else. The Katie who has come back is different than the one who left, but no one believes it. She is fighting an uphill battle to try and make amends. Her next door neighbor is the Preacher’s Kid from high school who she used to make fun of. It turns out that he has been hurt by the people in his father’s church and he has dropped going to church from his life. He and Katie strike up a friendship and their interaction ends up pushing both of them to accept life’s blows and move forward. The tension between them slowly builds into love in a very believable way.

I have enjoyed all the books by Tammy L. Gray that I have read, so when I saw this new title, I bought it. Her stories open your eyes to the fact that everyone needs God, especially those who seem to be pushing Him away with both hands.
