Me and Mr J eBook Rachel McIntyre
I was intrigued originally with the the idea of the story however I was very hard and not impressed by this Read. I will say that my heart went out to Lara especially towards the end in reality she had no one not even the so called love of her life because he couldn't be with her not openly and honestly she'd have to continue the bullying alone. The the structure of the book was fine it's a diary format the world building is a bit flat since it is diary entries were reading I felt that the writing style was rough very rough. I wouldn't re read or recommend this book I will say the bullying the story is quit real people do turn to cell phone, social media to do sick things

Me and Mr J eBook Rachel McIntyre Reviews
I received a copy in exchange for a fair and honest review on my blog Nayu's Reading Corner.
This is an extraordinarily insightful read about a mid-teen crushing on her teacher. Lara has an awful lot to cope with, including family break up, financial difficulties, physical/verbal/emotional abuse from her peers. Any of those on their own is tough, but having them altogether makes Lara more vulnerable, which is why she fell into the trap of Mr J. Every instance where she developed feelings for him had me shuddering. The concept of a pupil and a teacher being together is wrong on so many levels. I wanted her to ignore him, to fous on something else. But then Lara's story wouldn't be the same.
It sounds grim but there is hope, especially when Lara can't see it. Her voice is funny and made me laugh inspite of the dire circumstances. I was thrilled by the ending, which I've heard a lot aren't keen on, but the alternate is too horrendous to consider. I was fortunate to be able to read this in one sitting - yes I'd planned it that way - as it's a gripping tale which I know I'll reread.
Lara's having a terrible time at school. She has no friends and everybody hates her. Even her best friend has abandoned her so she could be more popular. Both the girls from her school and the boys from the school nearby are making Lara’s life a living hell. Lara is a beautiful and smart girl who has a lot of potential. At home she can’t talk about her problems, because her parents are spending every penny they have on fees for Lara’s education. Because she has to express herself somehow she’s writing down everything that’s happening to her in her diary.
Lara’s life changes when a new teacher has been assigned to her school. His name is Mr Jagger and he’s gorgeous. He’s in his early twenties and all the girls at school are falling for him. He’s noticing something isn’t right in Lara’s life straight away and he’s trying to include her in afterschool activities, so he can get to know her better. Lara falls head over heels for her teacher, but he's her teacher so he can’t love her back. While the bullying is getting worse, Lara’s relationship with Mr J is becoming closer. Will Lara and the teacher she loves so much have a chance together?
Me and Mr J is a book that covers a serious topic, bullying. I think the author has written about it in an honest, raw and beautiful way. Sometimes the story made me cry, because it was so real and so intense. I love it when a book can make me feel something so deeply. Lara is such a fabulous girl and it’s horrible that nobody at school can see that. Mr J is her teacher, but he’s so much more. A relationship between a high school student and a teacher isn’t right, but because Lara doesn’t have much happiness in her life I wanted nothing more than for her to feel good about herself for a change.
A student teacher relationship isn’t an easy topic to write about, it’s quite delicate. I think Rachel McIntyre has written about it in such a sensitive way. I’m impressed with how she handles it. She lets her readers feel so many conflicting emotions. The ending is really good and it made me see the story in a different light once again. I liked the effect the author creates with it. This isn’t an easy read and it’s definitely a book that will make the reader think, I think it’s brilliant.
*4.5 Stars*
What can I say about this novel? My thoughts are all in a jumble.
The author does an amazing job of making you feel for Lara and what she has to go through on a daily basis with her family and schoolmates. She can't seem to catch a break until Mr. J comes along. However, he is her teacher so right away you know it's not the best silver lining to Lara's problems. No spoilers but I will say I overall enjoyed the story and at the end I was happy with the message or moral of the story.
Rating PG-13 (profanity, intense bullying, sex but nothing graphic)
