The Book plot was engaging and kept me interested in the plot. I read the book in almost one day.
Diana Marcellas is a wonderful writer, and if you like fantasy that has a richly woven world, and beautiful language, and strong characters, then these are for you! I thoroughly enjoyed them, despite the fact that the series totally stops. Someone else commented that it's the kind of series that sticks with you. They're right. This one has, with me. And the fact that it doesn't end is a bit of torture for such a lovely series.

If Tor doesn't want to actually print them, why don't they publish it straight to ? I'd think that would be win-win for most everybody.

Please finish out the series! And if you're wondering if they're worth getting into, even if you can't read how it ends, the answer is still YES. )
This is the third in an unfinished series. Although it is a great book with a wondeful heroine we may never find out how it ends. The author does not have a website so it is unclear if there will ever be another book to end the story line.
I plan, in fact, to write TOR a letter about the fact that they never published the fourth book. It's a damned shame that the story has never been wrapped up the way it was obviously meant to be. If nothing else you would think they would at least allow the publishing of an ebook. I would snap it up in a heartbeat and it costs them next to nothing.
Okay, I'll admit, for some reason I thought this was the third book in a trilogy series and was expecting everything to be resolved by the end. Not so. Nothing is resolved, things are in fact more complicated with the introduction of new characters etc. Perhaps my expectations led me to feel this way, but I was very disappointed in the ending. I've loved these books so far. I've enjoyed Briarly being a gentle yet tenacious character, seemingly alone in a hostile world, yet driven to heal those that would punish her for being who she is. The love story is not typical, with Briarly being the 'other woman' and pregnant to boot. The politics are interesting and the new characters were all good. I just didn't like the ending. WARNING spoiler ahead for those of you who haven't read it I'm about to say something about the ending.

Anyway, I hated the way Briarly is turned into a space case, acting goofy and brain damaged. What a crummy way to leave her after three books of enjoying this character. It was almost embarassing to have her character become so undignified and silly in the end.
Giving this only 4 stars due to the publisher (Tor) which apparently never agreed to a 4th book. A 4th book (or a 4th and 5th book) would have tied up the loose threads nicely. Disappointed, not with the story, but with the publisher's failure to continue this series.
This is a light read with a good story line. This is the type of book I choose when I want to read and just enjoy the characters and story without too much thinking.
